The veneration of the Society of Ignatians to the devotion of the Five Wounds of Christ strengthens their devotion to the Heart of Christ, all of which of course is seen within the ethos of the traditional liturgy of the Church.

It bonds Ignatians to their chivalric forefathers of Christendom who enacted a special Mass in honor of Christ’s wounds, known as the “Golden Mass”, during which five candles were always lit. The Society of Ignatians will continue this noble tradition.

Ignatians also recall in every enactment of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass according to the Ancient Rite that traditionally the five signs of the Cross made over the Host and Chalice during the Canon represent the five sacred wounds of Christ.
